This year, the Diabetes UK Policy Team aimed to host an event in parliament to launch the "Reverse the Trend" report. The goal of this event was to highlight the rise of type 2 diabetes as a policy priority for the next government. I was tasked with designing the Policy Team's report for the event, utilising the brand identity developed by other designers in the Brand and Creative team. I was also asked to incorporate case studies and new photos into the report and coordinate with a printer to produce the report.
Given the time constraints inherent in policy work, we had a limited timeframe to develop the report. We prioritised the design process and managed to conduct three rounds of reviews. The collaboration between the Policy Team and the Brand and Creative Team was crucial, as their feedback helped shape the final design.
The Policy Team invited MPs, Peers, Civil Servants, healthcare professionals, and organisations in the health sector to the parliamentary event to discuss the impact of type 2 diabetes on children and young adults and the necessary solutions to reverse the trend. Attendees had the opportunity to hear directly from individuals with lived experience, including four of our Campaign Champions who shared their stories and hopes for the future with MPs. The Policy team is now focused on following up with the attending MPs to ensure our recommendations are implemented in their constituencies and across the government.
